I love you so.

The sweetest Where The Wild Things Are quote has been made into a print by Dear Colleen on Etsy. I've talked about her work before [check it out here - it was a good post if I do say so myself! :) ] but I truly adore this new print - wouldn't it be sweet for a Valentine's Day gift or hung on the wall on the way out of an entry? Oh and did I mention that it's only 29 buckaroos? Sold.

Print available here.

Kills some brain cells (no alcohol required)

Let's take a little stroll down memory pop culture lane today, shall we? I've found a few nuggets from the weboverse that I had to share - any and all of which may place me squarely in the "pop culture whore / likes the same stuff as a 13-year-old girl / slowly rotting my brain away" category. But I don't really care. And neither do you realllly, do ya, Judgy McJudgerson? You know you love it. So let's take a look, eh?

First up: trendy nails.

Soooo, everyone (okay, every 16-year-old) knows Lauren Conrad is, like, the coolest. And everyone knows that all the trends come from Asia before they hit America. Well, LC (Lauren Conrad is known as "LC" for any of those of you who live under a rock...Sara) just got back from Hong Kong and look at the fun mani she brought back with her:

I already covered matte nail polish and gray nail polish (both of which are going to be huge again this fall - though gray nails are now being usurped by "greige" - gray/beige), but is leopard the next big trend in nails? It is kind of cute, but I'm not sure it's the best for everyday workwear...

Next up: silly shower caps.

Thank you, Urban Outfitters, for always selling the most entertaining slash ridiculous products on the planet. Case in point: shower caps that look like animals (cat, shark, and so on), as well as other objects (no, no, UO is not about to leave out the possibility of putting an ice cream cone, raspberries or devil horns on your head!).

Here are some of my faves from their offerings:
The Happy Hippo would make for a cheery start to your day.
Or how about something furry and gray on your head (and not just hairs that need a dye job?)

The duck bill could serve as a visor to keep water out of your face. Convenient!

Ribbit.

All available on Urban Outfitters for $8.

Last: I can't not mention the VMAs in some capacity (and throw in both a Twilight and a SYTYCD reference all at once!).

So last year I commented on some of the performances from the VMAs (which are more fully known as the MTV Video Music Awards...try to keep up with the references here, folks...ahem, Sara) and this year I was really into the performance by Florence Welch from the English group Florence + the Machine. She gave one of the few live performances of the night and sang among a flurry of blue-painted dancers.

She was awesome, as were the dancers...whose movement looked strangely familiar. Turns out they were choreographed by Travis Wall, a So You Think You Can Dance alum.

Oh, and if the Florence song sounds familiar to you, it could be because it's the song from the Eat Pray Love preview (or maybe, if you actually are 13, it's because another Florence song - Cosmic Love - was used in Twilight).

Check out her live performance - and the awesome dancers - here:

And if you can't watch embedded videos, you can see the video here.

Well, I hope this dose of teenager-appropriate pop culture has brightened your Tuesday lunch break. I'm going back to my normal regimen of important and deep topics now (you know, things like Martha Stewart pole dancing, Obama drinking games, beards, and proper TP loading...those sort of deep topics). Cough.

So Romantic (and Joey makes a break)

Is this not the best-looking ensemble (and best-dressed, to boot) that you've seen in a while? It's the cast of the upcoming movie, The Romantics, and they're all clothed in allll J. Crew. Yep. Hot and well-dressed. Bitches. (jk)

Best part? It looks like Katie Holmes might have temporarily evaded the "clutches of crazy" (lookin' at you, T-Cruisey). Doesn't she look much more normal here? I almost see a slight sparkle of "Joey Potter" in her again. Case in point - she actually looks like she's having fun in this pic:

Photo via Just Jared

And here she looks just adorable:

This cast could not be more cute. Here are the ladies:

(Though not sure why the other star - Anna Paquin - was missing from this shoot - maybe because she was filming True Blood?)

And here are the boys:

Anyway, back to Joey Potter. I'm glad Tom let her out of her cage. Or that mountain where the aliens are trapped. She looks happy here:

And she appears to be consuming a sugary cupcake here. I'm not sure if that's allowed...

She probably had to get E-metered immediately afterward.

I keed, I keed. :)

I'm sure T.C. has a sense of humor as well. Just check this out for evidence.

Regardless, the movie itself looks cute. I doubt we'll see it in the theater (I pride myself in being a nice girlfriend who does not drag her boyfriend to chick flicks...though I do drag him to break-dancing movies [Step Up 1 & 2, what?]), but I will def be RedBox-ing it eventually.

Welcome back, Kotter Potter!

Clogged?

TGIF: Thank goodness for....fashion? Well this morning that's what I'm taking it to mean. But I may be pushing it with the "fashion" label, since what I want to talk about is not necessarily fashionable to some.

What I've got on the brain this morning is....clogs. That's right, clogs. You know, makes you think boy of a with his finger in the dam, tulips and the paint can. All that Dutch stuff you think of when you think of wooden clogs (or is that just me?). But these are actually Swedish. (Go figure.)

Swedish Hasbeens to be exact. And look who's rocking them:

Pay no attention to the ginger sitting next to SJP...don't want to scare you on a Friday morn, now do I?

And another view:

But SJP doesn't stop there. No! She's got multiple colors, of course! More:

Oh, and not just with capris. Here's a fall ensemble (complete with baby):

On a side note, her kids are pretty cute. Anyway, back to the clog at hand...

People have been suggesting I buy clogs for years - they're the only shoes that won't hurt your back, they say - but I've been resisting because I either picture little girls picking tulips and clog dancing or my mom disco dancing in the 70s. Woah.

But if they're good enough for SJP, American fashion royalty...I might be swayed...

Oh wait, I forgot to mention something about these clogs - made by Swedish Hasbeen and shown here in the Peeptoe Super High style (shown above in "Nature" or "Olive"), in case you were wondering. Here's the thing: I thought to myself, "Fine, fine. Clogs. They'll help with my backaches and at least they'll be reasonably priced." Wrong.

These mammers are $202! Well, they're $154 (converted from Euro) plus $48 shipping from across the pond. Them's some pricey wood-soled shoes man! But are they worth it?

What do you think? Are they too hein? Or kinda cool? Do tell on this Friday morn! (What do you have to lose? Tell me what you really think... As if you're hard at work...) ;)

Birthday shout-outs

Remember when it was this chick's birthday? Well, today it's her "man-flesh"'s turn, so I wanted to wish him a happy birthday...with my ever-famous, embarrassing photo montage.

Let's start with when I first met Dan. He appears to be approximately 12 years old (and maybe albino) in this photo, but I assure you he was indeed non-albino and a college freshman:

Fast-forward to 10 years later (eek!) and here is, all growns up:

So nautical.

Here we are showcasing our respective geekier sides at a 3D showing of Avatar (I forced them all to stop outside the theater [even though it was 1:30am!] to document this):

And finally, here is the birthday boy with his twin girlfriend.

Happy birthday, Dan!

Today also happens to be my friend Eric's birthday. Whew, big day. Let's all wish him a happy birthday too, shall we? Roll the footage, Jeeves!

Eric and his lovely wife Andrea:

Try not to stare too hard at my uvula.

And I couldn't let Eric get through a momentous occasion without an embarrassing photo like this:

Niiice. E-rock, just for the record, I left out the ones of you doing yoga on this ball. You can thank me later.

Well, there it is. The tour de Dan and Eric. Happy birthday, boys! Hope you each have wonderful b-days and welcome to old(ish) age!

Night driving / still sleeping

Peeps. Since I didn't get in until 3am last night (no, I wasn't partying it up; I was doing this) and didn't get to bed until even later, I am currently trying to catch up on some much-needed sleep before I have to run off to work. I will hopefully be able to post something later this evening, but for now, I am either napping or working. So tired. (It was worth it though.)

I will leave you with this in the meantime:

Last night, driving home at 3am on my scooter, I was actually able to notice all the smells throughout town. During the day I never get this sensation, and I certainly don't get to breathe it in that way when driving in the car (even if the windows are down).

Luckily, this ain't no NYC, so the smells weren't too bad - it was really more the smell of the bay breeze, a neighbor's plants and flowers, or trees in different parts of town. It was so nice to absorb the slightly chilly air as I zipped home, alone on the road and with no headlights in sight.

However, I did smell one particularly heinous tree - I believe some call it, ahem, a "semen tree"? My friend Jess thinks it's a ginkgo tree. Whatever it is, it's nasty. Luckily, not much farther downtown, the smell of azaleas, magnolias and even roses wafted up as I zoomed by. I love the oncoming spring/summer.

Be back soon! xoxo, sleepy girl.

Late-night SATC2

Well, I saw it. I'm not going to say anything more about it - good or bad - basically because I'm not slick enough to not give anything away if I do. :) But I saw it and I was excited and I wanted to share.

What I can tell you is that we went to the 12:01am show, since we thought it'd be kinda fun. It was totally fun, but I guess I didn't realize how loooong the movie is - with previews, we didn't walk out until 3am. (I just got home.) Yawwwwn, I am tired.

Just thought I'd share - woohoo, first to see it! ;) I'm off to bed now. Good night! (Or should I say good morning?)

Spring happenings

I've been gabbing about the slowly burgeoning spring weather and being outdoors lately, but I'd be pretty fake if I didn't divulge two other, slightly less natural, things I'm siked for in May.

Numero uno:

May 28th, people!

And slightly less fantastical, but definitely over-the-top in its own right:

9 by Design on Bravo

Are you into/excited about either of these things? I'm glad they cranked out the next SATC so quickly...but then again, I guess they kind of had to or the ladies would be 60 by the time the next one came out....

Zebra wallpaper and in Spades

Heather of Habitually Chic posted photos from Kate and Andy Spade's NYC home a while back and it was fun to get a peek of what their place looks like. Obviously I loved it (how could you not with style like theirs?), but one room in particular stuck out in my mind: the guest bathroom. I'm crazy for the crisp white and black color scheme, with that amazing pop of fresh green from the wallpaper. Good, right?:

I thought I recognized the wallpaper, but it took me a day to figure out where I knew it from:

Remember Margot Tenenbaum's 3rd floor in The Royal Tenenbaums (one of my favorite movies, by the way)? I always loved that safari-papered bedroom and bathroom.

It turns out that the wallpaper has quite a story of its own beyond a guest appearance in TRT. It was designed in the 1940s by paper company Scalamandré for Gino Circiello, the owner of the iconic Gino restaurant in New York. As explained in The New York Times, "Mr. Circiello was a hunter without the means to pay for an African safari, but he reasoned that he could at least afford zebras on his wallpaper." The Scalamandrés, family friends, designed the leaping zebra and arrow paper for Gino's, and the rest is history (and supposedly Gino ended up going on his safari later in life, so all was well in that respect too).

Pretty good back story, no? And it helps that I love that paper, even if it had just come out of a boring old factory.

Oh, and in case you're wondering what the rest of the Spades' home looks like, here are some of my favorite rooms from the lot:

That bedding is very Kate Spade.

Although what's up with the men-with-dots-on-their-faces art?

Cute kitchen.

Lurrrv the built-in bench, with its black and white stripes against the black and white checkered tiles. Brilliant use of pattern. (And again with the pop of green against the b/w - I sense a theme...)

Breaking news:

Sarah Jessica Parker has turned into a carrot!

Before you boo me for saying that, let me say that normally I luv huh. (Cannot wait for SATC2!) And from some angles, she looked really pretty at the Oscars tonight. But in this pic, she looks like a carrot. A cooked one. In hollandaise sauce. Ouch.

Tanorexia strikes again!

Stood up by the snow and movie sequel anticipation

Well, the big 3-day snow never materialized (despite 50mph winds, I've yet to see a single flake of snow), so I'm left feeling a little stood up. Good thing Val broke some big news this morning to cheer me up a bit. Yup, that's right: Zoolander. Sequel.

What really, really, ridiculously good news - makes me want to go get an orange mocha frappuccino! (If you're not getting any of these references from the first movie, just skip this post now...)

So what has Derek Zoolander been up to for the past 10 years? Perhaps this?:

Image from MTV's Photoshoppers

And in case you need some cheering up too, here's a little something to leave you on a good note (or a ridiculous one). It's yours truly doing Derek Zoolander's signature pose, the "Blue Steel." Since we couldn't have a breakdance fight right here on sea*life*style, let's have a Blue-Steel-off. Ready, set, go:

I think mine needs some work... (and I need some self-tanner immediately!)

Green (screen) acres - Hollywood's altered reality

It's amazing what tv and movie productions are able to create with a small set and a green screen these days. Check out this clip from Stargate Studios showing what's real and what's been "green-screened" - it's pretty amazing:

Link (in case you can't watch imbedded videos - iPhone wut): Watch here.

Groundhog Day gets wintry

I completely forgot that today - February 2nd - is Groundhog Day. Happy Groundhog Day to you!

Don't you kind of miss elementary school, where we celebrated every holiday and got to do a special project for each one? I remember February always seemed jam-packed with special activities, since it held Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, and Presidents Day (and my birthday!). I miss being instructed to do crafts on a weekly basis!

Anyway - lucky us - this morning at sunrise, Punxsatawney Phil prognosticated that winter will be for six more weeks. Ugh. But that was really no big surprise anyway, right?

Hope your February is going well so far. Bundle up and enjoy our (at least) six more weeks of hibernation! (And tonight's premiere of Lost!!!)

More Moore: Julianne's Bulgari ad

I was flipping through a magazine yesterday and came across this ad for Bulgari’s Spring-Summer 2010 jewelry and watch ad campaign. Julianne Moore (or, "is that Amber Waves from Boogie Nights?" as B said) looks so gorgeous in the ad, portraying what Bulgari is calling “Eccentric Charisma” (whatever that means).

But what really got me - other than that I'm featuring another ginger whom I think looks beautiful (what is the world coming to??) - is that the lovely Ms. Moore is 49 years old. 49, people! The woman looks crazy good, and in a way that Photoshop can't fix up alone. Very impressive.

At home above the New York City skyline

All photos found on Apartment Therapy, via A Cup of Jo

Aren't these rooftop houses in NYC cool? Since real estate is at such a premium in the city that never sleeps (and has very little free space left), these people made the best of it and found their own spaces atop buildings. The view must be amazing and you have your very own standalone in a place where four walls of your own is rare. Genius!

*Does anyone remember Admiral Boom from Mary Poppins? These little rooftop houses kind of remind me of the Admiral on his rooftop ship...
