The news about the massive earthquake and resulting tsunami that hit Japan on the 11th is devastating. I sort of feel like I'm just one person, what can I do to help?
Of course you can donate to the Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, and other major organizations (go here for links to these organizations' and others' efforts). You can also support Japan through art.
The print shown above, "Help Japan" by W+K Studios, was designed by Max Erdenberger and printed by Steve Denekas and Walker Cahall. All of the proceeds from the print will go to Japan.
I know some of you can't check out videos during the day while you're at work, but these two are totally worth sneaking under your desk or checking out at lunch. One's hilarious and one's pretty interesting. I suggest you to watch both. (Or at least video #2 - and you scan it quickly if needed.)
First up, this little guy is verrrry upset about having his junk food cleaned out of the fridge (by his temporary mom on Wife Swap). His reaction is kinda priceless:
In case you can't see embedded YouTube videos (iPhoners!), here's the link.
Next, an interesting look at a controversial question. Don't be scared: it's not offensive or political; it's just fascinating to see what a huge change occurs in these peoples' thinking after just one follow-up question:
Here's the link if you can't see the embedded YouTube video above - go take a look, pretty please!
I had fully planned to do another post this evening, but with the rain still coming down, the sky all dreary and dark, and our house warm and cozy, I must admit that I'm already wearing my PJs and pretty much hunkered down for the night. But, I will be back in the morning (hopefully a sunnier one at that!) with fresh new posts. See you then?
Let's put this out there now: I am a Red Sox fan. B worships the Phillies. It's okay - they play nicely together (they're in different leagues and very rarely do they play each other). The Phils have already clinched the NL East division championship and no one really cares about the Nats (sorry, it's kind of true), so B was able to score some really good tickets to last night's game for pretty cheap.
Behold, our clutch seats: Is it wrong that I was most excited about the tailgating and eating a ballpark hot dog? (Which, for the record, I did, along with french fries and beer, capped off with Cracker Jacks. Ouch.)
The game was a quick one - the Nats won, 2-1 - but we had a really good time hanging out and enjoying the amazing early-Fall weather.
Thanks for the tix, babe. I had a blast! (Please excuse the mediocre iPhone pics and the slight mushiness...)
I'm not going to turn this blog into my personal diary (at least not planning to), but I couldn't resist putting a little *ding* on here to wish my kind, dear, wonderful, lovely B a happy anniversary. This weekend was our seventh anniversary. Yikes! Time has flown...
Happy anniversary babe! I love you so much (more today than yesterday). xoxo, r.
Okay peeps, smooshiness over. Back to regular posting now. :)
So i've been reading blogs for a while now, mostly fashion! But i've recently fallen in love with the idea of having one. Bare with me i'm quite new to this and still need to get the hang of blogging! What you can expect from this blog is a life style! I'm a simple girl living in Toronto.. I love music, food and like any girl have an extreme passion for fashion! I'm no expert so everything posted will be simply personal.. So excited!
A Seurat painting come to life: This real-life recreation of the 1884 Seurat painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, is so wonderful! Of course, it's not exactly spot-on - it is in Deloit, WI, after all - but it's a lovely new interpretation. You can find a bit more info about the photographer and the event here. Nice idea, Deloiters!
Friends, my scooter was stolen today (while we weren't home) from in front of our condo building - despite the three locks that were intertwined through the brakes/front wheel and attached to the metal railing of our building's front stairs. I've filed a police report but there are no guarantees that they'll ever find it; scooters are a hot item (especially in the summertime) and very easy to lift/hotwire (although I had hoped all those locks were a deterrent). Who knew they'd be able to take the scooter - locks, cover, helmet and all - in one fell swoop in broad daylight?
I've sent out a tweet about it to the webiverse and asked others to retweet (this is that tweet), just to get the info out and around town. Another scooter similar to mine was stolen from our neighborhood (one court over) last night and the police found it this evening. Some people a few neighborhoods away saw some guys trying to hotwire a scooter, thought it seemed odd and called the cops, so they were able to retrieve it safe and sound.
I'm kind of hoping to luck into a similar scenario if I get the word out around Annapolis and people know to look out for my impossible-to-miss, custom-painted baby blue scooter, but I don't think I'm that lucky of a person. I'm not sure they'll ever find mine. I don't know whether to resign to the fact that it's likely gone forever in case that's the truth or to hold out hope that they'll find it. I don't want to jinx myself or get my hopes up... I'm just sad in general right now (and out a ride to work - since parking downtown is prohibitively expensive, vs. parking your scooter in your office for free).
Sorry to be such a debbie-downer, but I wanted to share A) what's going on and B) why I might not get posts in today (working, searching, kickball semi-finals, checking in with police, etc.). If you could send good juju my way it'd be much appreciated. Thanks all.
Good Monday morning, y'all! I've been away for a short bit. Didja miss me?
I didn't get to say this last week when the day passed, but sea*life*style just had its 1st birthday. Happy little birthday to you, bloggy! I can't believe it's been a year. Whew!
It was kind of a rough time for that milestone to occur (being that my two jobs have made me a sporadic poster at best) so I didn't mention the b-day at the time, but I wanted to at least acknowledge it now and give a quick thank you to those of you who have been reading thus far. I hope you're still enjoying, and do please feel free to comment with suggestions (or gripes) at any time - I love hearing from you all!
And with that being said, I'm tucking into a nice big slice of delicious cake while I write some new posts for you all to read. Hope to see you back here soon!
Okay, enough whining. You didn't comment on the curtains wholeheartedly. Whatevs. I'm over it and back to posting some schtuff for now. I'm still on the run with work, errands, friends, etc. so today you're getting another mashed-up post. Sorrry. But I loved all this stuff, and didn't have time to do separate, full posts on each, so consider this a "top hits" for today. Hope you likey. (If not, well, fine.):)

We just bought tickets for anotherVampire Weekend show (they're coming back to MD in Sept. - woohoo!) and this time it's an outdoor show, so we got lawn tickets. I'm thinking I may need this blanket for the occasion: Cool, right? I'm not hugely patriotic, but the slightly off colors make it just cool enough (and not something a dude with a mullet would bust out on a cold day at a NASCAR race...right?). Available for 68 bucks at Urban Outfitters. Spotted on Design Crush.

Next up, an awesome poster and an even better blog post about said poster: And here's Abbey's awesome write-up, from Abbey Goes Design Scouting(hope she doesn't mind I'm including it here - she wrote it, I had nothing to do with it - I just wanted to share because I liked her description):
Whenever there was a particularly pink beautiful sunset my mother used to say “Red at night, sailor’s delight but red in the morning, sailor take warning” meaning of course, that a pink sunset indicated that the next day would be clear. I always loved the way ’sailor’s delight’ sounded and would say it over and over in my head. When I saw this sweet poster I was immediately brought back to childhood and running around in the pinky dusk of a Vermont summer night.
Finally, the most awesome way to wake up every day. I'm going to have to give this a try, though I think standing on the sink like that would result in me smacking my head on the ceiling or falling off the sink altogether (or both, which is highly likely with me since I am very klutzy). This kid is awesome - a mini Tony Robbins. I picture this to be Sara McKelvey's future child (watch out, Dan).
Oh, come on, it's only 50 seconds. Go check it out (if you can't see the embedded video): here.
Check out the full blog post on Daily Bits of Beauty for more "How to Have an Awesome Day" tips.
Goooood morning, poppets! Happy Monday! Did you have a good weekend? I did, but I'm pretty exhausted - who knew working seven days a week for several weeks in a row could be so utterly draining? (Wait, I did - that's why I've never done it before. Blerrgg. ;) )
Anyway, I did get to enjoy the beautiful weather on Saturday and am hoping to see a glimpse of it again this morning before the rain is supposed to roll back in. In the meantime, though, why don't we take a second to skim through these awesome thoughts from some wise guys (literally, wise men)?
Top quote by Ghandi (a wise man indeed), found here. Bottom quote unknown, but found here.
I have a bunch more coming today, so check back in a bit. Hope you have a good Monday!
I've missed you, bloggies! I've been busy, busy, busy these past few weeks (two jobs, oh my) but I'm doing my best to keep on keepin' on and to keep posting here.
I'm signing off to work for the rest of the day, but I'll be back tomorrow with all-new stuff. See you then?
Aren't these two sentiments/photos/quotes/thoughts so sweet? I couldn't not share them. The top idea is so true, oh and wait, so is the bottom. Right, B? ;)
I once read - on another, much more established, very popular blog - that one of the most boring things to do on a blog is to apologize for not posting consistently. Oh and posting about what you ate or are currently eating is supposed to be a no-no as well (but I routinely break that because, hey, I want to know what you're eating too! Feel free to share, b-t-dubs).
Well, I'm going to break that apology rule right now and just say: My Bad. Between work, traveling, baby showers, friends, family, kickball, life - blah blah blah - I got busy. Aren't we all though?
But anyway, the point is that I'm BACK. Didja miss me? :)
It's ironic that I'm going back to my old workplace on April Fool's Day, no? I kind of feel like a fool, so that's appropriate. But I'm also glad for a bit of a change (though I only sort of brought on this change myself). Let's hope all goes well today and that this isn't just one big joke on me. (I wouldn't want to have to go all Carrie on their asses...)
p.s. I'll still be posting here, but the hours at which the posts go up might just vary a bit more. Please continue to stop by - I'd miss you all too much if you didn't!
Yes, today is April Fool's Day and, yes, I was very tempted to put a bucket of water above the door this morning to drench B. Unfortunately, we don't really have any doors that we close around here, and I'd probably end up cleaning up the mess anyway, so it just wasn't worth it.
But something that is worth it on this day is April Food Day. Today, April 1, the blogosphere is joining together to try to help those in this country who are starving and in need. A note from Meg of Pigtown Design(wut wut, Maryland!), the blogger who organized this second annual drive:
Please make a donation to Feeding America, or your local food bank, and count yourself as one of the lucky ones if you’re not going to bed hungry every night. Feeding America has set up a special URL for April Food Day so they can see how much we've donated.
I know things are tighter for everyone this year, but this is certainly a worthy cause.
Okay, I'm off my soapbox now. Thanks for reading and any help you can give.
And now back to our regularly scheduled drivel. ;)
My brother has been accepted to Berklee College of Music and they've awarded him a scholarship based on his talent! Hooray!
I am so excited for him, and so proud (and so looking forward to having a place to stay in Boston, but that's just a bit selfish, hee hee). Sam, this officially makes you a (M)asshole! (I keed, I keed.);)
Good thing it panned out - otherwise these hand tattoos would've just seemed ridiculous (wait...). ;)
Congrats, little bro! That's major news (ha - dorky music pun...).
Loving this quote (and so pretty in that script). I'm actually working right now, hence the late blog post. I'll be back later, but for now, I'm getting back to work!
Also, I'd be quite happy working here any day: I have that chair and a similar desk, but I seriously need to do some styling to get to that level of decorated-ness (though maybe minus the zebra-print rug!).
In the meantime, work it out (or make it work)! :)
