handmade nation fundraiser

this is coming in late, but better late than never....
paper boat is one of littleoddforest's fab stockist, co-owned by filmmaker/author, faythe levine
"Faythe Levine, co-owner of Paper Boat, is also working on an independently produced documentary called "Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY Art, Craft & Design" (also to be released as a book by Princeton Architectural Press in November 2008).
The documentary is currently in post production and is in need of funding assistance. In order to help with production cost, monthly raffles have been set up to raise money.

craft: magazine preview
all thanks to awesome marie of the sampler! i was one of the lucky few who was given the opportunity to check out an advance copy of the launch issue of Craft: magazine. i didn't know what to expect since i haven't been reading much of other journals in the community recentlyfirstly, hats off to the designers - the design and layouts of both the print magazine and its website are really well done, very visually captivating, easy to read, but not dull boring layouts. very beautifully filled pages. very visually similar to Make magazine, since it's done by the same group of peeps, yes? reminds me of our magazine projects in college, this is not an insult, maybe they won't think it's a compliment either, but i say this because everything is very neat and very design-textbook-followed, and also, they have achieved zero typography design mistakes! which many magazines out there have... messy typography which would have made our design instructor puke blood.. tsk tsk
content-wise, it is okay average, not too bad, but nothing super fantastic, it's like deja-vous as it seems that i've read about many of the featured artists/crafters, projects, and some other articles in the other indie-supporting mags like bust and readymade. just like readymade and make mag, it has achieved the goal of steering "craft" away from the dull boring traditional crafts and craft mags, the projects featured were fascinating and fun, but most of them were more fun to read about or to look at, nothing i would want to do myself. so is it just another one of those hip-looking craft mags? i don't know. it certainly is filled with projects, but many of them feels more like artsy/techy frivolous projects than practical craft projects which i assume more people would be interested in?
but anyways, i think that as a launch issue, it's job is nicely well done, the future issues may be kick-ass for all we know. the stitch robots featured on its cover now would have made it for me to want to pick it up from the magazine shelf.

waiting for me!
thanks so much, lucia! my order from spain's emerging talent~ chicadecalena, was waiting preciously on my working desk when i got home from the airport on thursday! eepp!i purchased la boutique á papillons, a joint project between chicadecanela and another wonderful lady french talent natacha matic! sweet! i chose the rose set, which comprises of 1 porcelain butterfly pin, 1 poofy bow-like fabric butterfly broach, and 1 crocheted flower pin, all nicely packaged in a cute little drawstring bag! and yes, how can lucia not slip in a little something extra for me???? heee! :p are you jealous yet?? i got a chicadecalena crochet owl broach! ack!
everything in the package was very sweet and nicely designed, from the postcards, the photos on the postcard are awesome, the stickers i get to cut out, and hard card backing with laminate.. etc. you can really tell that a lot of heart and thought has gone into these all. and being her blog friend :) we all got her promo stationary set of a cute little stick notepad, a pencil, and eraser!
and now, she's even gone into shoes! what next?? ^_^

spanish sweetness
we all need some of sweetness in our lives!! yes we do ^_^
lucia, the talented and creative mind behind chicadecalena, was one of the very first few talented nice peeps who cheered me along the way when i first started out littleoddforest more than a year ago
and she has finally opened a little boutique section in her pretty website for us to shop for her wonderful sweet creations! you simply must visit, even if just to browse!
i have my eye on this~
a chicadecalena collaboration with natacha matic, another super talented gal!
i've been using babelfish until it drove me mad, as you know, the translations sometimes (or most times) are literal translations, which could mean nothing in english! hahaha
i gave up. i emailed to ask for help.
^_^
have a gorgeous weekend everyone!!
