Chic in the Heat

Summer brings sunshine, and you can finally break out your miniskirts and brights.

But dressing for the varieties of summer activities, from beaches to air-conditioned offices and cinemas to barbecues, to poolside cocktail parties can be daunting. It requires a fair amount of creativity and strategy.

Summer Essentials:

A printed dress, a basic shift cardigans galore, a smart tote, a flat sandal or a cork wedge and oversize sunglasses will take you from the beach to a five-star in style.

- Sundress: They're light, summer hued, comfy and airy. Nothing can beat the heat like a nice summer dress. It's not only fashionable but your respite from the callous heat. Wear a nice summer dress in white or the hot neutral hues and accessorise with necklaces or go for floral or tribal prints. Make sure you pick the right fabric, cottons or linen, to beat the heat ad keep you cool.

- Cardigans or smart blazers: darting in and out of air conditioning can attest to the frustration of runnin hot and cold. Smart cardigans in array of colours or stylish blazers (boyfriend blazers are huge this season) are your saviour and summer staples.

- Oversize Sunglasses: Yes, a nice pair of oversized sunglasses are a total must-have for Summers. Not only they immediately upgrade your glam factor but also protect your eyes and the delicate areas around your eyes from the harmful UV rays.

- Roomy Bag: Summer requires your bag to have the extra space to fit in your glasses, sunscreen, facial spritz, gloss, wallet and a small bottle of water. It's useful to have something roomy like a smart tote.

Colours Trends for Spring Summer 2010

White - White spells class, serenity and SUMMER!!!!! No spring/summer wardrobe is complete without the soothing whites. The summery white does the trick of cooling you off and bringing in the chic to your look. Come Summer and a LWD replaced the LBD, wear all white monochromatic look or add a punch of colour to your ensemble using brights. At the very least, a crisp white shirt should be on top of your shopping list.

L-R: Michael Kors, Fendi and Gucci

.
Blush - This ultra-feminine shade is THE COLOUR OF THE SEASON. The pastel shade works for all skin tones, giving fair to dark complexions a rosy glow. It looks best when paired with soft neutral separates during the day and bright iridescent accessories at night. Experiment with lace or chiffon or for a more statement look pick a blush-colored dress or blouse with embellishments. Other neutral hues like nudes, beiges are also in this season. Wear them with the same mantra as Blush and remember playing with layers and textures and mixing the neutral hues would look great.

.
Acid Yellow - Most of the girls would probably shy away with the thought of adding yellow to their wardrobe, but don't let Acid Yellow intimidate you. Make a sunny statement in a neon shift paired with heather grey sandals and a matching clutch. The color even works at the office—brighten a dark suit with a lemon-kissed camisole or a blouse with a splash of citrine. While acid yellow looks ideal against olive and dark skin tones, fairer complexions can opt for softer versions of the eye-catching hue.

The Perfect Plume

National Geographic

The peacock is such a splendid, rare creature! They are actually pheasants (don't tell my husband, they will create a hunting season for it too) known for their colorful blue and green iridescent tails. Their tail spreads out into a magnificent train that fans across their back with dinstinctive "eye" markings of the feathers in blue, red and gold hues.

J Crew

You can guarantee if you see me this summer at the pool I will be sporting this deco-inspired peacock print from Liberty Art Fabric by J Crew...love it!

York Wallcovering

A powder room would not be complete without this print by York available in 4 colors, you can't go wrong with bronze or teal.

Apartment Therapy

In case anyone is in Austin, TX or planning a trip soon check out the The Peacock. The "Glamorous Hollywood-style decor and vintage cocktails" of this place make me want to catch the next plane to Austin.

Delos

One of my favorite rug companies Delos has a super swanky peacock rug in hand tufted wool.

Fashionable Interiors

This beautiful peacock inspired mirror graces the home of fashion designer Liz Lange designed by Jonathan Adler.

Haft 2 Know

In case I am invited to Kate and William's wedding...that is Prince William and Kate Middleton or if I renew my vows this dress is my choice. Wow, is all that I can say, what an work of art.

Obama Takes 9 Days to Respond

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina came ashore in Mississippi. Three days prior to the Hurricane making landfall, President Bush declared it a disaster area.

Less than 5 years later, an oil rig explodes in the Gulf of Mexico spewing the oil into the gulf on Earth Day. 5,000 barrels of oil per day is shooting up out of the earth into the Gulf.

During those nine days that the oil was flowing into the Gulf, President Obama was traveling around the midwest trying to sell Americans on Financial Reform and demonizing Wall Street. At the beginning of his campaign against Wall Street, the SEC said they were investigating Goldman Sachs.

In the midst of those nine days Arizona passed a law banning illegal aliens or foriegn invaders from Arizona. While doing one of his speeches in the midwest on Financial Reform, Obama became Anti Government claiming that the law was misdirected and claimed that this law will mean that if you're an illegal invader, and you take your children to get ice cream, you will be harrassed even though your ancestors may have been here for generations. This is a flat out lie on Obama's part, but it's interesting that he would lie and disparage the Arizona lawmakers making him one of those anti government domestic terrorists that they've been complaining about since the Health Care vote. Still the oil flowed.

Also during this nine days, Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano testified and when asked whether the borders were safe in Arizona, she said first that they were as safe as they've ever been. People are being murdered. Ranchers, officers of the law, and even some of the illegal invaders. In addition, kidnappings are running rampant. Senator Lindsay Graham pushed the question again and Napolitano said that the question was not a fair one. Still the oil flowed.

Finally, nine days after the explosion, we still don't know what caused the explosion, but Napolitano did do a flyover of the leaking oil rig where 11 people are presumed dead. The oil has reached the mouth of the Mississippi and the shores of Louisiana and Mississippi.

Animals are being covered in oil. The fishing season is upon the area and the fishermen are saying that this will ruin their businesses.

While this oil is flowing, let's take a look back again. It's August 2005. All eyes are on the Gulf of Mexico. There is a hurricane brewing. It's getting stronger. But we don't know if it's going to go to Mexico, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, or turn towards Florida and Alabama.

The hurricane continues to churn out in the gulf and grows stronger. Finally, nearly a week before the hurricane, named Katrina, actually hits shore, the tracking shows that it will hit anywhere from Louisiana to Florida. The presumed track is narrowing as the hurricane moves ever closer. The only question now is how far east it will turn in.

Three days prior to landfall, it's pretty well certain it's going to hit Louisiana and Mississippi. The experts are now questioning how large of a storm it will be, although it's known it will be a very large one. Just how large is in question. President Bush declares a state of emergency for the states on the Gulf Coast. He urges people to evacuate.

Twelve hours before landfall, Governor Blanco declares a state of emergency and tells everyone to evacuate. Mayor Nagin urges people to evacuate and opens the SuperDome to those that have no place to go.

The hurricane makes landfall in Mississippi. While it was a Category 5 in the gulf when it hits shallow water before making landfall the strength drops and it's a Category 2 when it hits land.

We all know what happened from there. People in New Orleans waited for the government to come and get them. 1,000 people died. 2,000 buses sat empty in a parking lot. Bush was called a racist for allowing so many black people to die. News programs showed the looting going on following the hurricane and they showed mainly minorities doing the looting. Again, racism was yelled out. Even Lewis Farrakhan jumped in with his conspiracy theory that Bush had ordered the levies blown up.

Liberals complained that it took President Bush two days to go to New Orleans. Yet, the hardest hit areas in Mississippi were rarely mentioned and not given the attention that New Orleans received.

Back to present day. Where are the news reports complaining that Obama has not been to the Gulf during any of the nine days since the explosion? Why has he not visited New Orleans? Is he a racist? Incompetent? Why has it taken nine days for Napolitano to fly over the region? Is the Federal Government ignoring New Orleans again?

Today, on the tenth day, Obama decides to suspend all new oil and natural gas leases off shore. It's an interesting response considering that there are 819 active oil rigs in the gulf and there have been over 6,600 rigs in the gulf.

Once again, the liberals are quick to accuse when Bush is President, but duck and cover for their President.

You're welcome to comment.

Hey Asthmatics, know your limits!

World Asthma Day is here and it is about time we all join our hands together in creating awareness and care around the world. The theme of this year Asthma Day is "You Can Control Your Asthma".

So, it is about time you keep a tab on your limits. Watch out for these things and kick the asthma blues away:

  1. Exercise is important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a modicum of aerobic fitness.

  2. It is also important to gauge whether you need to take your medication before exercising in order to prevent exercise-induced asthma.

  3. Another important aspect of natural asthma management is to eat a wholesome and healthy diet and ensure that your body weight is within the optimum range.

  4. It is also important to not take any dietary supplements, natural or otherwise, without consulting your doctor. Some natural products may be made of possible allergens like bee pollen, and have the potential to trigger an asthma attack.

The first and most important rule in terms of asthma care is that it is better safe than to be sorry. So, keep your treatment options open, but stay within reach of your doctor!

Melissa Saul's Card

Today we are featuring this lovely card made by one of our giveaway winners, Melissa Sauls. We love the way she layered the ribbon, petals, and designer brads. Thank you for sharing, Melissa. We love to see everyone's creations. E-mail them to seiblog{at}shopsei{dot}com and you could be featured too!

Colorful and crisp living room

This room from House Beautiful is a cool mix of juxtapositions: traditional-feeling yet fresh, colorful yet not over-the-top, old-ladyish yet young all at the same time. I don't have this much color going on in my own house, but I kind of love it - the turquoise art with the pop of orange from the pillow especially. What do you think?

Man's Best Friend

When Pups Rule the Roost

This week we are facing the final days with one of our beloved black labs. He has been a good dog and I find myself saying that when I get upset and thinking on what he means to us, he is just a dog, right?? I know but dogs are truly a man's best friend. They are steadfast companions, always happy to see you, never ask much of you but some food, a walk and a rub! They listen to you and knowlingly give you a gentle nudge if you have had a bad day...well that is our dog altleast. I know there are some Park Avenue pooches that rule their parent's roost and go to doggy spas by day and puppy play groups by night. They have their nails painted, their hair trimmed and wear the lastest designer dog duds. If you have one of these dogs or have a little girl who enjoys being girly....

Neiman Marcus

There is a cute children's book Poodlena by. E.B. Mc Henry about a pink poodle that is always so prim and proper. She always goes out for her walks and turn up her nose at the other pooches that are dirty playing in the mud becuase she would never dare to be that dirty. One day poor Poodlena gets pushed into a mud puddle but she learns that playing is just as fun as primping!

I love, love the collars and dog beds from Harry Barker http://www.harrybarker.com/! They have some awesome beds made of hemp with stripes and toile beds that are eco friendly with hypo-allergenic stuffing (in case your dog is sensitive). These beds are not only cozy for your dog but look good in your home too. They have a wide variety of leashes from leopard to nautical and other doggy gear to choose from including bowls, toys and treats.

        Harry Barker

For all the dog lovers Best In Show by Osborne and Little comes in a fabric and a wallpaper. I do love my pups but this might take some convincing....

The smallest horse in the world

My boyfriend is very sweet. He sent me an email yesterday with a link about the world's smallest pony; he thought I would think it was cute and that I should post it here on sea*life*style. Wasn't that nice of him to think of me and this blog?

The pony is cute, true. Check him out:

Snark alert:
But what kind of blog does B think this is? I am not posting about cats here, people. (Oops.) Sweet thought on B's part nonetheless.

And just to prove I am not the world's biggest beyotch, here is a bit more info about Einstein the tiny pony:

Einstein was just 6 pounds and 14 inches tall when born. He is a half pinto stallion and was born last week in Barnstead, New Hampshire. He is not a dwarf, he was just teeny tiny at birth. You can get the full story here, if you're interested.

And to prove that I really love B (and horses too, right?), here's video of the little guy:

Kinda cute, no?

Here's a link to the video, in case you can't see embedded vids (via YouTube).

So there it is, the world's smallest pony. Enjoy.

"Changing lifestyle patterns are leading to innumerable diseases and the best way to prevent illness in general and chronic disease in particular, is to exercise right. Unfortunately only a very percentage of Indians are aware of the proper way to exercise," opines Harmeet Luthra, a fitness expert.

Luthra is the director of Fit Line, a master franchisee of Cybex-a US-based company manufacturing exercise equipment. He was in the city for the launch of Fittness Inc, a health club. Luthra adds, "Exercising should not be taken as a luxury. It should be an integral part of routine life."

Fittness Inc, launched on Thursday by Princess Diya Kumari, offers a plethora of workout choices in a congenial environment. The health club is spread over an area of 7000 sq ft on three floors. Akash Kejriwal, the director of the club, says, "The club has a full range of both strength and cardio training machines and our instructors are trained by RTS (resistance training specialist) academy in the US. A spa, a roof top cafe-Azzura-which offers organic food and a gaming zone are some of the exclusive features of the health club."
