I don't know about you but we have been having simply awful weather. To keep busy indoors, I have stopped procrastinating and got on with some jobs that I had been neglecting. The most major of these was recovering this wonderful folding screen. I hope you won't mind if I tell you some of what was invloved in what looks like a simple project!

Firstly we had to remove the inner frame pieces which are there to hide where the fabric is attached. This had to be done quite carefully because the wood is pine and quite soft so prying off the inner frame could easily cause damage. The original fabric was heavily stapled into the main frame so each staple (felt like 1000's) had to be pulled out so that we could remove the original (grey) fabric.

I then had to measure and cut the "new" fabric which is the French vintage fabric I posted about previously. This might sound easy but cutting 4 perfect squares is difficult for me as it seems i can't cut a straight line to save my life. After several attempts I did manage.

The fabric was then stapled in but when this bit is done, you have to be really careful to staple it in completely straight or you will end up with "wrinkles" in the fabric. Getting the tautness right is another tricky thing too.
We then had to refit the inner frame edges to cover the stapled areas. Amazingly the frame pieces were now too long to fit into the main frame. Dont know how this happened but it took 2 more days to get them in there correctly. Paul had to file down the edges of most of the pieces before nailing them back in. Finally, it was done and I think it looks super!
Unfortunately we have another screen just the same that needs recovering. I dread the thought of doing another one but I know the outcome will make it worth the effort.
Has anyone else been taking on some projects lately?
I would like to introduce you to my little girl's blog . If you have a spare moment, please stop by and say hello, I know she would appreciate it! thank you.
