Personal Style Challenge

I'm always posting my everyday personal outfits, but I always wonder what my readers personal style/taste is. I don't believe there's one simple rule to fashion, its a form of expression. So I've decided to have a Personal Style Challenge...

Here are the rules:
1.Just send in a picture of you wearing an outfit (you can send more than one picture if you like)and what stores you got them from
2. Write a little description of what fashion is to you
3. Send all of that to monlifestyle@gmail.com !

Let's celebrate our different styles! -- Really excited! x

Outfit :)

(Blazer: H&M, Top: Forever 21, Belt: H&M, Jeans: Banana Republic, Oxfords: Steve Maddens, Bag: Aldo)

Today was pretty fun I got to catch up with a friend and took my little sister along and then we went out to the movies. We watched Charlie St. Cloud .. Was a good movie, thought I expected to cry a lot more than I actually, I only teared up a bit! To be honest.. it wasn't at all what I had expected that's for sure. I got to rock my oxfords for the first time today, yes indeed it was their first day out! I loved them and got a lot of compliments on them :) so definitely worth the purchase. Tomorrow I'm getting my eyes re-checked and then getting my new glasses, so yay! I did decide on the nerdy ones, and your comments were really helpful!

I'm really loving your questions guys, keep them coming! Hope you all had a great weekend x

Look for less: Mulberry Alexa

(Above: Mulberry Alexa Below: ASOS Leather Twist Lock Satchel)
I've been lusting over the Mulberry Alexa bag for a while now! Named after British style icon Alexa Chung tons of fashionista's around the globe have been waiting to get their hands on this bag. Perfect for the fall, it's the perfect mix of classic and chic. Though I've come to realise dreaming about the bag will get me nowhere, I recently found a cool alternate that looks almost the same! The look for less: ASOS Leather Twist Lock Satchel is available at www.asos.com

Reader Request: Gladiators

(Image clickable)

I got a request to do a post on Gladiators and I thought it would be a great opportunity to do so, because I absolutely adore the Gladiator trend. It's been around for a while now, and the trend is still here! What I love about Gladiators is they're so versatile and they look great with almost anything like a cute skirt or dress, jeans, cropped pants.A few of my favourites are the ones I posted above, a lot of places you can get great Gladiators are Aldo, Steve Maddens, DSW, Spring and check ASOS for more brands. I must say though the best gladiators and sandals I ever got were from my trip to Miami! If you ever get a chance of going there ask me what malls to go to, they've got the most amazing shoes, sandals I've ever seen. My friend, sister and I were in Shoe heaven!

Vogue Editorial: Age of Consent

Loved this editorial on Vogue. I really loved the whole message behind it. I'm really excited for this falls collection, made to be appropriate and worn by women of all ages. Vogue is loving the attitude they have on the runways where there isn't a minimum age requirement for wearing them, they're just timeless essentials like the camel coat and razor-sharp trousers that rise above the navel. This fall it's all about the cool classics.

iPhone 4: Overrated?

I know my posts are more focused on fashion, but the iPhone 4 has been the most talked about subject for the past weeks or months even! You probably know/heard the iPhone 4 came out today. If not because you want one, or you're a gadgets person then probably on the news. I was watching the news earlier and apparently people have been lined up since maybe 4 or 5 in the morning. Now I own a blackberry and I used to have the older iPhone (So I really did like it) but not the extent of waiting in line in the middle of the night. I personally believe they're focusing too much on this product. I think it's cool- sure, but I don't know.. I was pretty excited for it before since I get excessive emails from apple telling me the day it was going to be out but, I really feel people have made it a bigger deal than it is.. half of it's menu and applications I guarantee people won't use.

What do you guys think of think of it? Or have any of you purchased it? Do you guys think it's worth the hype...

Favourite Rompers

So I know Summer is almost coming to an end, but I realised that I barely posted on one of my favourite summer trends. Rompers/Jumpsuits are an easy summer wear that don't require that much effort. If you're in a hurry or not in the mood to match I think they're perfect and still leave you looking stylish. Just slip it on, add a couple of accessories and cute flats/Gladiators and you're good to go!

Rooms from la la Land

This week I have seen some of the cutest babies and stylish pregnant ladies in town. When you are not expecting it always seems as if the rest of the world is. My 3 babies are growing up fast with the oldest starting kindergarten, middle almost 4, and the baby turned 1 in June.
I have lovingly planned each of their rooms with eager anticipation of their arrival. Each room is very different, capable of carrying them into the next stage of their lives and seemingly fits their personalities. Although with my oldest, a girl we are now on her 3rd room, 3rd paint color! In her new room she participated in the decorating process even helping me paint the antique tole chandelier hanging over her bed which is one of my favorite touches.

This adorable nursery belongs to Charlottean Laura Vinroot Poole's daughter Fifi as featured in Domino magazine. It is a vintage meets contemporary nursery featuring a metal bamboo chandelier, Dick and Jane posters combined with a Jonathan Adler table and modern crib.

Here is Fifi's room a few years later shown in Charlotte Magazine's Home and Garden with a big girl bed and a few feminine touches added. Fifi is so stylish she has a beautiful Mexican Otomi on her bed too!

House of Turquoise featured this chic nursery by Lucas Studios for the Stately Homes by the Sea show house in New Jersey. I just can't get enough of these images, very sophisticated yet peaceful and serene for baby.

Tamar Mogendorff

One of my favorite vendors for whimsical accessories is New York artist Tamar Mogendorff. She just posted that she is working on the "Unideer" which is extremely exciting! I can't decide if I would like one for myself or my daughter, doesn't every gal love a unicorn at some point in their life? All of her lovelies are hand stitched from linen, mohair wool, vintage fabrics, pashminas and incorporate vintage buttons, beads, threads and ribbons.

I have a client who has Tamar Mogendorff's white swan in her nursery and it adds a unique, fantastical touch.

In my son's room I incorporated the deer and it sweetly looks over him.

There are wonderful fish and bird cages that would dazzle any baby or child.

Available through designers.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau is born in Saint-Andre-de-Cubzac, France, on June 11,1910. When a car accident ends his dream of becoming a navy pilot, Cousteau heads underwater, adapting an automobile gas regulator in 1942 to invent (with Emile Gagnan) the Aqua-Lung--the first commercially successful scuba gear. His more than 110 subsequent underwater films and television programs promote a new awareness of ocean ecology by bringing millions of viewers along as he explores--often aboard the refitted minesweeper Calypso--the 70 percent of the world covered by water. "We must save the oceans if we want to save mankind," writes Cousteau, who dies in 1997, age 87.

110 YEARS AGO SOBBY BOXERS

Angered by increasing foreign and Christian influences in China, anti-imperialist insurgents known as the "Righteous and Harmonious Fists"--dubbed Boxers by the foreign press for their beliefs that exercise rituals could protect them from bullets--lay siege in June 1900 to the foreign diplomats' quarters in Beijing. Supported by Qing Empress Dowager Cixi, who orders all foreigners killed, the 55-day siege is finally ended by an eight-country international force. The defeat of the Boxer Rebellion weakens Qing power, which ends with revolution in 1911.

140 YEARS AGO WALKING THE WALK

Atlantic City, New Jersey, opens the nation's first beach boardwalk, June 26, 1870. The mile-long promenade is proposed by hotelier Jacob Keim and railroad conductor Alexander Boardman to keep tourists, drawn to the town by developers' promises of healthful air, from tracking sand into hotels and trains. Extended over time to its current length of more than four miles, the boardwalk becomes famous for saltwater taffy, bathing beauties--Miss America contestants first pose here in 1921--casinos and, after 1935, being primo Monopoly property.

75 YEARS AGO THE COURAGE TO CHANGE

On a trip to Akron, Ohio, in 1935, Bill Wilson (below: in 1970), a recovering alcoholic, seeks out fellow drinker Dr. Bob Smith, hoping to lead Smith out of drunkenness and bolster his own sobriety. On June 10, Smith stops drinking, and Alcoholics Anonymous is born. The two men build AA on the idea of alcoholics aiding one another, using a 12-step protocol that Wilson enumerates in 1938. By 2010, AA has two million members and is the model for many groups facing addictions. Wilson dies in 1971, age 75.
